Mary Poppins

Carebear, Frik, & Squirt came to town for a visit. They arrived on the heels of major winter storm and left being chased out of town by another storm. The roads were closed behind them as they left.

So what does that have to do with Mary Poppins? Nothing, except for the weather. We bought tickets months ago and tonight the major storm that chased CF&S out, almost kept us from being at the theatre on time. I left the office at 4:30 to go home & pick up Susie (she doesn't like to drive in bad weather), borrowed Samara's car (it does great in snow), and made it back downtown and to the theater with 5 minutes to spare (including twice around the block looking for the theater's parking garage. The signs on the freeway were caked in snow, so if you didn't KNOW where you were going, there were no signs you could read to tell you where you were.

The trip home was uneventful, except for the driver in front of us that decided to spin out and do a 180, ending next to the median, facing the wrong way... not something you want to do on the freeway. It made for a bit of excitement.

And the play was wonderful. A different story from the Disney movie from the 1965, but with a number of the same songs... and a more sympathetic tone for George Banks. I recommend it.

Yeah if you're gonna spin out on the freeway, at least do a 360 and end up pointing the same direction still in your lane. Sheesh.

Not really much less nerve racking... but still.

I'm not going to spin out on the freeway. More exciting for the care that was doing the spinning...

I spun out on a mountain freeway once, wound up facing oncoming traffic. No actual crash that day, though.

Let's just say that I've learned a lot about driving in inclement weather since then. It was a long time ago.
